MOST Basic Research Program (973) project: Decadal droughts and mechanisms over global drylands (2012CB956200), PI: MA Zhuguo, 2012-2016. This project is designed to investigate the patterns, mechanisms, and tele-connections of drought over global drylands, to examine the differential contributions of land and ocean processes to mega drought, and to assess the ecohydrological consequences and risks of climate change in arid and semi-arid regions. It includes four components: 1) Global patterns of decadal droughts and mechanisms; 2) Comparison study of land-atmosphere interactions in arid and semi-arid regions; 3) Contribution of human activities to decadal climate change in arid and semi-arid regions; and 4) Vulnerability and risks of dryland ecosystem and water security.
